Nirvana
Spa adopts many Green initiatives and is committed to reducing its impact on
the environment.
We are
committed to ensuring energy efficient buildings, plant, machinery and
working practices. Our future
purchase policy for new and replacement facilities and equipment is based
upon materials which offer maximum energy efficiency and conservation
Below
are just a few examples of current progress and initiatives we have adopted
•
Carbon Trust Energy Survey
Nirvana
Spa & Leisure Ltd “demonstrated a
commitment to reducing energy consumed and carbon emissions and is to be
commended” – Carbon Trust Inspector
Following
the full energy audit carried out by the Carbon Trust, the following
initiatives have been implemented
• Light/Movement Sensors
Light
sensors have been fitted to all outside lighting and movement sensors in
store cupboards to ensure lighting is not switched on unnecessarily.
• Staff Training
A
rigid procedure has been set with the assistance of our contract Cleaning
company to ensure all lights are switched off at night and only switched on
when required for cleaning. In
addition to this all Staff are trained to switch off all computers, TV’s and
other electrical equipment at night and not purely left on ‘stand by’. This policy has reduced our ‘out of trade’
hours electricity usage by up to 11%.
• Boilers
In
order to reduce energy lose from our boilers we have upgraded all the hot
water pipe insulation in the plant rooms and on our boilers.
In
addition we have also established the following initiatives
•
Recycling
As
part of our on going review of waste we are currently reviewing improved
recycling and reduction of waste produced on site. Through the use of ‘paper only’ bins within all Staff / office
areas and the recycling of all delivery boxes we have increased our recovery
on paper / card waste by 50%. In addition we are now recycling all glass
on site. This in turn has reduced our
waste to landfill by 25%.
•
Green Working Group
Last
year we formed a Green Working Group.
This is a Group of 6 members of Staff who meet every 6 weeks to set
out action points on Green issues, this covers a range of issues from
recycling / reducing waste, reviewing suppliers for the use of recycled /
renewable materials and Reduction of energy usage.
• Low
Energy Lighting
Throughout
both Nirvana Spa and Pulse 8 Health and Fitness Club the company has a policy
for the purchase of Low Energy Lighting.
We are in the process of upgrading certain areas which include the
installation of the ‘state of the art’ LED lighting around our Roman Pool.
•
Laundry
Our high tech, eco friendly laundry facility has
recently been installed. These new
machines have reduced energy consumption by up to 50%, and use up to 40%
less detergent
